Medium or Large Van: What does you Business need?

28 September 2021 AutoMarket, Tips & Advice

The pandemic has altered the way we run our businesses dramatically. Are you seeing more online sales? Or is it business as usual for you? This change may mean that what you now need to be able to run your business efficiently may have changed. Do you need a van? If so, what size is best for you and the services you offer?

That is what we are here to help you with! Choosing the best fit of light duty vehicles (LDVs), or commonly referred to as ‘delivery vans’. But when we say size does matter, it shouldn’t necessarily mean having a bigger van is recommended. It has to be guided by the business needs and specifics so you’ll make choices that will soon change the way you run your business. After all, you’re here to save up by knowing and getting more, whether it be buying new or used cars for sale.

Now, let’s enter the candidates that can step up to the challenge!

Vans, obviously, not the shoes!

We’ve got two delivery vans that vye for the best choice for your business - the LDV G10 and LDV Delivery 9, both modelled for this year. If you’re thinking the number indicates the size, well, it’s the other way around. Size-wise, the Delivery 9 is bigger than the G10, which is a medium van segment. Throughout this review, we will look at every angle of the two candidates for the job and help you decide what delivery van can be the next big carrier of your business towards success.

On specifications

Powered by a 2.0-litre turbo petrol, the G10 generates 106kW and 350 Nm. It also matches with a ZF six-speed automatic gearbox plus a six-speed manual. The fuel claim is around 8.6 litres per 100 km.

Talking about size, the G10’s cargo volume is at 5.2 cubic metres and can tow up to 1500 kg with trailer brakes. The turning space that sizes up to 11.8 metres is fairly good for circling around town, especially in tight spaces where business matters could take place.

Safety features, you ask? G10 has it all for you. It can be spacious yet is also loaded with tech and safety upgrades, such as anti-lock brakes, electronic stability control, cruise control, emergency brake assist, roll movement intervention, tyre pressure monitoring, rear-view camera, parking sensors, power side mirrors, lane departure warning, and autonomous emergency braking. It also has in it some entertainment-worthy enhancements such as Apple CarPlay, Bluetooth phone connectivity, and a 7.0 inch infotainment system.

Meanwhile, the Delivery 9 has a 2.0-litre turbo-diesel four-cylinder engine that fits its size very well. Along with it is the power that generates 108 kW and 375 Nm, as well as six-speed automatic transmission. According to CarAdvice’s test, its claimed fuel consumption is at 9.9 L per 100 km traveled.

This huge van weighs 2300 kgs., with cargo volume measured at 10.97 cubic metres. The tow rating is at 2800 kg. with trailer brakes. The 14.2-m turning circle is also an ideal stretch when driving in tight areas. On top of all that, Deliver 9 offers a three-year, 160000 km warranty plus roadside assistance as well.

Just like its prior counterpart, Deliver 9 also delivers when it comes to tech and safety touch-ups. These include adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking, brake assist, electronic brake force distribution, anti-lock brakes, electronic stability control, hill hold assist, rear parking sensors, lane departure warning, wide rear view camera, electric heated exterior mirrors, single sliding door, and 180-degree rear barn doors. The entertainment package of Deliver 9 comes in with Apple CarPlay, 10.1 inch infotainment touchscreen, and a 4.1 inch LCD instrument cluster.

Let’s check the cabins!

There are massive differences when you take a seat behind the wheel of both G10 and Deliver 9. On the G10, there are also significant upgrades that made it worth a ride just like the bigger Deliver 9, with safety being the top priority now. The medium van segments like this now have comfort, storage, safety and insulation across brands, including this one. With added features that one could only see from cars such as smartphone integration, switchgear, and rear-view cameras, driving a G10 can give off a vibe like you’re driving your own car rather than a delivery van, which is already a great experience.

One advantage of Deliver 9, on the other hand, is its space and high seating gives you a throne-like feeling. Its forward glasshouse has a lot to do with it, as well as the seating position and high vantage point. The Deliver 9 also boasts a newer generation cabin interface, complete with new tech and controls upgrade, as well as a wide infotainment screen.

But both can offer enough storage for your valuables and are comfortable enough for a drive that could last for hours.

Now, the load space…

Talking about space, obviously, the Deliver 9 gives the G10 a run for its money. But let’s take a closer look at both first.

G10’s space measures like this: 5168 mm long, 1980 mm wide, and 1928 mm high. It also has a cargo space that is 2500 mm in length, 1590 mm at its widest point, height at 1270 mm, and 1278 mm between the rear wheel arches.

The Deliver 9, on the other hand, is sized as follows: 5940 mm long, 2062 mm wide, and 2535 mm high. Along with 10.97 cubic metres of storage, its length is at 3413 mm inside the cargo section, 1800 mm in width, 1792 mm in height, and 1366 mm between the wheel arches.

The final verdict, do you have it?

The best way to come up with a choice here is to assess what you think your business needs. As an additional weight to your choice, you also have to think of your current budget and long term plans. Will a taller, larger van be capable of bringing all the necessities of my business? Will a medium-sized delivery van keep up with the pace, speed, and efficiency expected of it for my business? These are just some questions you can ask yourself come decision time, and we hope you land at the best choice!
