Car to Look Out For in 2022

8 November 2021 AutoMarket, Tips & Advice

Whilst some 2021 models have been pushed back in the calendar year due to chip shortages and supply-constrained delays, the popular favourites like the Honda Civic and Jeep Grand Cherokee are now bracing for bumper scrapes. Excited about car upgrades and innovations for the year 2022? Here are the new cars to watch out for this coming 2022:

2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Prior to the release of a redesigned Jeep Grand Cherokee in 2022, Jeep announced earlier this year a distinct model on two separate social media channels with nearly the same name. The 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee L three-row SUV extends the JGC's appealing, timeless style and comes with two familiar engines, including a Hemi V-8, as well as independent front and rear suspensions. With room for seven, the larger proportions can still conquer the trail, but with room for seven, it's more about conquering the family's to-do list.

Redesigned Jeep Grand Cherokee is expected to debut in the first half of this year for 2022, marking the venerable SUV's first redesign since 2011. Expect it to ride on the Grand Cherokee L's new platform and borrow heavily from its design.

2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer

The Grand Wagoneer returns after nearly 30 years, ditching the wood panelling (unless you look closely at the teak headlight bezels) in pursuit of an opulent upmarket three-row SUV to compete with the Lincoln Navigator, Cadillac Escalade, and GMC Yukon. The polygonal design and square rear end conceal a tech powerhouse that can be outfitted with up to seven screens, four of which are located in the front. Engine options will be announced later this year.

2022 Acura MDX

The redesigned 2022 Acura MDX is built on a larger unibody light-duty truck platform and features a new double-wishbone front suspension, a longer nose, an upgraded interior, and the same 290-hp 3.5-litre V-6 engine. Among the updates are new safety and convenience features, a standard panoramic sunroof, with a 12.3-inch display screen.

2022 Hyundai Santa Cruz

The Santa Cruz, which is more of a small pickup truck than a crossover, goes from concept to reality. It will be built on the Hyundai Tucson crossover SUV platform.

2022 Nissan Frontier

The mid-size truck segment is back and better than ever. The 2022 Nissan Frontier has been completely redesigned for the first time since the 2005 model year, with a new exterior, interior, suspension components, and a V-6 powertrain that debuted in 2020 models.

2022 Volkswagen Golf GTI

Only the performance-oriented GTI and R models will be available in the 8th-generation hot hatch in 2022. The lower, longer hatchback will be powered by a more powerful 242-hp 2.0-litre turbo-4 mated to a 6-speed manual or optional 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, and it will ride on revised independent suspension. The interior is also getting a much-needed makeover.

2022 Honda Civic

The redesigned sedan and hatchback will go on sale this summer, followed by the Si and Type R. The coupe will not be returning. The new design includes a larger 9.0-inch touchscreen on the inside, but that's all we know for now.

2022 Hyundai Ioniq 5

The Hyundai Ioniq 5 is an electric compact crossover with retro styling and futuristic cabin and technology that will be available in 2022. It's shorter than other electric crossovers like the Ford Mustang Mach-E and Tesla Model Y, and it comes with an available dual-motor all-wheel-drive system powered by a 77.4-kWh battery pack with 302 hp and 446 lb-ft of torque and a 0-62 mph time of 5.2 seconds. The range has yet to be confirmed.

2022 Lucid Air

The Lucid startup's flagship electric sedan, which ranges in price from $77,000 to $169,000, enters a much more crowded market than when it was announced four years ago. Depending on the battery pack, the range is estimated to be 400 to 500 miles.
