Car Preview: Chevrolet 2022 Bolt EUV

5 January 2021 AutoMarket, Tips & Advice

Two years ago, Chevrolet teased the possibility of a new crossover based on the Bolt EV platform. And at last, we’re excited to announce that this concept will be a reality in 2020. Introducing: the Chevy Bolt EUV.

The 2021 Bolt EV and 2022 Bolt EUV will both use the same 66-kWh battery pack from the 2020 Bolt EV, and GM officials have hinted that its peak fast-charging rate may be improved further in the near future. This will make the Bolt EUV a solid choice for small families in search of an energy efficient ride.

Did you know that Chevrolet is preparing to introduce a bigger alternative to the electric Bolt EV? We’ve only seen a sneak peak of the grand Bolt EUV, which is not yet ready for release. This model a appears to combine the sequential front turn signal and LED daytime running light under the same lens, which makes the front fascia more interesting. The position is relatively high up on the front end and point where the bumper, hood and fender intersect. Its headlights are mounted lower, just like the current generation of Jeep Cherokee before it undergoes a facelift and like several Citroen models sold.

While the front fascia is the only piece of the puzzle revealed by Chevrolet, a dark photo of its profile suggests the electric utility vehicle will be longer and taller than the usual Bolt and offers motorists a little more ground clearance. Its wheelbase within stretches three inches longer and its extra sheet metal will give the rear occupants more leg room. Its powertrain specifications remain under wraps.

Chevy Bolt EUV Interior

Know the flow.  Here’s an inside peek of the Power Flow Screen right from the heart of the All-New Bolt EUV.

Photos released earlier gave us an exclusive look at the Bolt EUV's interior design, hinting that:

  • It is more spacious than the Bolt
  • It has a redesigned centre stack
  • It has a touch screen separated from the HVAC controls by a thin strip of shiny trim.

Chevrolet confirmed that the Bolt EUV will be the very first EV with Super Cruise, a state-of-the-art hands-free driving system inaugurated by Cadillac and slowly spreading its way across the General Motors portfolio.

Other new features are more likely to include a cutting-edge camera and sensor array to make the Bolt EUV the first non-Cadillac GM model to feature Super Cruise technology. "Bolt will also get a button-activated one-pedal driving mode, something Bolt EV fans and EV drivers, in general, have been asking for," said Bolt Chief engineer, Jesse Ortega.

Sweeping the Bolt into crossover territory should broaden its appeal and while the current model is ostensibly marketed as a crossover, it's more of a tall hatchback similar of the people that ruled the European market in the 2000s. But did you know that 16,418 units of the Bolt found a home in the United States in 2019? It means that it was outsold by the Corvette with 17,988 units and the Spark with 31,281 units.

Chevrolet will release more details about the 2022 Bolt EUV in the coming months, and its production is scheduled to start in the summer of 2021.

Founded in 1911, Chevrolet is one of the world's largest car brands, available in 75 countries with nearly 4 million cars and trucks sold in 2019. Chevrolet car models include electric and fuel-efficient vehicles with a design that makes turns heads, engaging performance, passive and active safety features, easy-to-use technology, all marked by superior value.

Chevy promises additional updates and improvements as it is currently designing the second-generation Chevy Bolt EV, which will also debut at the same time as the new Chevy Bolt EUV. Until then, we are left waiting for the release of Chevy’s family of new electric vehicles.
