Want to save car fuel? Filling up your car every week can cost you hundreds of dollars per year! 🤯

Don't worry, you are not alone! Every car owner can relate!

Here are some tips to save fuel and money that will benefit both your car and your wallet.

Ways To Save Car Fuel

Not all energy-saving driving methods are created equal. It’s not just about keeping your eyes on the road and your hands on the wheel, but also about keeping your feet off the pedals. Here’s how:

1. Avoid driving fast and keep a steady speed

Did you know that you can save up to 20% on fuel by simply not driving fast?

Simply limiting quick acceleration and fast braking can improve fuel economy. Most modern vehicles are fuel efficient under 90 kph - anything over that is not! To avoid sudden braking and acceleration, keep a safe distance behind the car in front of you. If you are stuck in traffic or have come to a complete stop - turn off your engine to avoid wasting unnecessary fuel.

Allow your speed to drop as you drive uphill, then regain momentum as you travel downhill. Use cruise control on highways (where conditions allow), but keep in mind that slight variations in speed can be beneficial.

2. Keep your car clean!

Did you know that every 90 kgs of extra weight reduce fuel efficiency by 1.6 km?

A medium-small size car’s fuel consumption rises by about 1% for every 25kg of extra weight it carries. Keep your car clean, and avoid transporting heavy items for an extended period of time. Roof and bike racks create a drag, while heavy items like towbars or items in your boot should be removed & left at home. Remember, the lighter your vehicle is, the less fuel it will consume.

3. Regularly service your car

Proper maintenance improves fuel economy. For example, unaligned wheels that collide waste fuel. A dirty filter clogs the engine's air supply, resulting in a higher fuel-to-air ratio and higher gasoline consumption.

A car that is noticeably out of tune or has failed an emissions test can improve its gas mileage by an average of 4%, though results vary. Repairing a serious maintenance issue, such as a faulty oxygen sensor, can increase your mileage by up to 40%. Check tyre pressure to improve fuel economy by up to 3%. Upgrade your engine oil to improve your gas mileage by up to 2%.

Conclusion

There a many simple steps that you can follow to help you save car fuel! Addressing each step will allow you to make a noticeable difference in how much fuel you use. Because, who doesn’t want to save both money and time?
